YEA!  On February 27, 2016, Seattle University is again holding the unique Search for Meaning Book Festival.

This successful and engaging book festival has been going strong since 2009.

This year, over 50 authors will be presenting at longer key-note sessions as well as at shorter seminars.

Presenting authors include the more famous such as Tracy Kidder, Julia Cameron, and Nancy Pearl and many others who are not so well known, but who have interesting and sometimes provocative information to share.

You can buy presenting authors' books right at the event—booksellers include Elliott Bay Book Company and Seattle University Bookstore.

I’ve attended this event for two years in a row and I’m looking forward to this year’s sessions.

An extra bonus is an art exhibit exploring the theme of the meaning of life.

You can’t beat the amazingly inexpensive price of 10 bucks to register for this event.

So be sure to attend and open the doors to more worlds and a variety of perspectives.

And check out the short YouTube video below.

I'm excited to share that an exhibit of some of my art (13 artworks) is now at the UW Tower in Seattle, Washington.

People have been telling me how it has added much needed color to the otherwise dull corridor and how happy it makes them feel to see it!

In addition, my recently published book and 2014 finalist for the Wishing Shelf Book Award--
Rumble Tumble Joy--is in a display case in the same area.  It includes both my writing and my art.

In September, I had a lovely chat with Rosie Morgan—a wonderful writer who lives in England—Cornwall to be specific.

Amazing the shortened distances our wired lives provide for us.

With the added benefit of meeting creative and kind people across the world!
Two of Rosie's books, The Golden Sword and Time Smugglers were finalists for the 2014 Wishing Shelf Book Awards.

Check out our discussion by clicking here.

My “Aha” Moment to Last a Lifetime

Picture
From the 2015 Aha Moment Tour Website
I love “aha” moments and it's wonderful to hear about those same moments from other people.

These are moments when crystal clarity opens one up to a deeper meaning of life and with that clarity—the course of one’s life changes—often in beautiful and unimaginable ways.
They often contain truths and wisdom that others can relate to and be inspired by. Their packaging is as unique as the person relating them—and they are a gift worth sharing.

In 2015, Mutual of Omaha staff traveled the USA in a 34-foot long, super-cool, silver bullet Airstream trailer to talk with folks across the nation about their “aha” moments.

I was fortunate to be able to meet up with this talented crew.

Meet Cuca--A Fun-Loving Artist & Greenwich Village Cockroach!

5/23/2015

La Cucaracha is a short tale about Cuca, the cockroach, who lives in the 1970s in Greenwich Village--the era of bell bottoms, flower power, and free love.

Cuca is not immune to their power, nor the tasty tidbits left by his giant roommate, the chef.

How does Cuca survive in a world that wants to see him dead?

How does he thrive and ultimately share his artistry?

For a good laugh, follow Cuca on his journey today!

Click on the cover to learn more.
Recent review posted on Amazon.com...
Lots to love at home and in town with Cuca!

Fun and frolic, a look at life from the cock roach point of view--and maybe see a bit beyond our human façade, too. This is a character you can love.

My favorite lines: "He was respectful of books and did his best to not leave any marks. Cuca always washed his feet before he took a book dip."

This story reads like the author laughed and giggled her way through the writing, and who can resist a writer who is having the time of her life with a cockroach? Or was he, now? Hmmmmm. Sounds a lot like a great-uncle of mine!   --Marlee LeDai

Author and artist, Kathryn V. White has met some of Cuca's NYC relatives and can honestly say that Cuca is one amazing cockroach.  Kathryn's most recent book, Rumble Tumble Joy: A Journey for Healing, Inspiration, and Wholeness, is a finalist in the 2014 Wishing Shelf Book Awards.  Find out more at: www.kathrynVwhite.com

(Rated: 4 out of 5 stars)

GREAT NEWS!  The San Francisco Book Review loved my book, Rumble Tumble Joy: A Journey for Healing, Inspiration, and Wholeness and rated it 4 out of 5 stars.

Here's an excerpt of the review:

"Using poetry and prose, White takes readers inside her personal journey of transformation, acceptance, and wholeness. Through the passages, White wrestles with and finds contentment with her weight, her face, her skin, and her body, particularly her thighs...

White's journey is filled with moments of joy, pain, sorrow, anger, and love, and readers--women of all ages--can use Rumble Tumble Joy to embark on their own journey of appreciation and acceptance of themselves and others..."

One Good Dog

9/27/2014

One Good Dog is a story of a high-powered, highly-stressed executive who lashes out at his administrative assistant and in less than a day, his entire career is ruined.

But it doesn’t stop there.  In an avalanche of destruction, his wife battles for divorce; he loses his beautiful estate and most of his money; and his strained relationship with his daughter frays towards the breaking point.

Unable to afford the life he worked hard to achieve, he moves to an apartment in a rundown neighborhood.  He begins working at a soup kitchen and a homeless, brutalized dog shows up on his doorstep.

And his life becomes something he never anticipated.

This deftly woven story alternates between a man’s and a dog’s point of view.  It’s a page-turner book that takes you on the journey of how a man’s failure and a dog’s tragedy can come to a place of greater meaning and, ultimately, a greater love.

Looking for a Lost Prince?

8/9/2014

Need a fun, light read full of twists and turns?

Want a book where violence isn’t what the story revolves around?

And involves a helping hand from the ghostly realms?
Check out cozy mysteries by Nancy Atherton.

In these stories, Lori Sheperd, along with the support of her bunny Reginald and the help of her dead friend Dimity, solves mysteries in the Cotswolds of England.

In one sitting, I read Aunt Dimity & the Lost Prince. It involves a smart little girl relating a tale of a missing Russian prince held against his will.  Is she spinning a yarn or is it true?  And then she too disappears.

Read the tale today by clicking on the book cover!  (Affiliate Link)

Easy Ways to Market Your Books

6/7/2014

Rumble Tumble Joy Book Cover Image
As authors know, to write and publish a book takes much devotion, courage, creativity, patience, and tenacity.

There are so many times when you have to dig deep into yourself to find the energy to continue because of the vulnerability inherent in writing authentically.
And then as part of this same process there is the marketing of the book—before, during, and after it’s published.  Like so many authors, I want to use my precious time and energy for writing my books and stories—and yet marketing is something that must be done.  It's part of the whole package of being an author in today’s world of traditional, indie, and hybrid publishing.

As I continue down the road of getting my book, Rumble Tumble Joy: A Journey for Healing, Inspiration, and Wholeness, ready to go out into the wider world, I appreciate D’vorah Lansky and all the folks that joined her to help us authors be more successful in marketing our books.
Book Marketing Blog Hop Picture
D’vorah’s recent 30-Day Book Marketing Challenge & Blog Hop was a wonderful way to learn!  The informative daily emails with important information broken down into small chunks that one could choose to read that day or later on was a great way to get me thinking and implementing new things without having an information overload meltdown!

Want some easy book marketing tips from the Challenge? Click here.

I recently implemented Sharon Williams' LinkedIn tip and now my soon to be published book, Rumble Tumble Joy; some of my published stories; as well as an anthology I’m included in are highlighted on Linkedin.  Easy to do?  YES!  To see how I’ve implemented Sharon’s tip, click here.  (Scroll down until you see "Kathryn White's Publications")

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Advance Praise for Rumble Tumble Joy: A Journey for Healing, Inspiration, and Wholeness
"Rumble Tumble Joy provides a window into the soul of its author, Kathryn V. White, and demonstrates how one woman's story can supply a pathway of healing for many others.  Kathryn's willingness to share her process of transformation will help women everywhere to find their own voices and their own liberation from society's false expectations.

The included Reader's Discussion Guide offers thought-provoking questions to aid readers in their quest for personal awareness and growth, centered around what it means to be a woman in today's world. I highly recommend this book for individuals as well as for study groups who are dedicated to helping girls and women gain true acceptance of themselves."

Cloud Atlas

3/8/2014

Stunning, complex, unusual—the film, Cloud Atlas, includes six stories spanning centuries and the intertwining lifetimes of several souls.  As the characters reincarnate and reunite in life after life, they take on different roles—sometimes villain, sometimes hero, sometimes sacrificed, and sometimes saved.
And as we watch the interweaving of these threads of specific lifetimes, we see actions, reactions, and consequences.  Yet, how direct are these linkages and how much is meaningful, meaningless, fate, destiny, personal evolution, and societal evolution remains somewhat obscure.

This film includes an all star cast: Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Susan Sarandon, Jim Sturgess, and others.  Each actor is transformed by make-up and prosthetics as they become a new person in another lifetime—linked, but different.

Watch this film, discuss it with others, and/or read the book.  The message is provocative and inspires meaningful conversation.
